i have short layered hair. i've been wanting to do more than just straighten it. so i was wondering if anyone knew how to style it so that it was a lot edgy-er. do they do it with just gel or something??

take a picture to your hairdresser and tell her you want it similar to that, very choppy %26amp; edgy with lots of layers in the top, but you want to keep the length in the bottom.. thats what i did.

to style it;

you can either use a hair wax or pomade on the ends to kind of sculpt it out; or use light hold hair spray and put it lightly on the top, and pull the pieces up/out [kinda hard to explain] and kinda mess it up until it looks the way you want.

use a product that will give your hair seperation and texture -it will generally say something like that one the bottle- try hair wax ("difi" is a great lightweight kind, it comes in a thing that looks like a hockey-puck with an orange top) I'd also try and get your layers razored to give them more jagged ends.

Get gel and put it on your hands. Pull it into sections and put your hands at the root. Slide your fingers down and continue to the next section. Viola!

let ur hair grow out 2 ur chin and then when ur straightening it u can flip it out at the end

take texturizer or wax like Johnathans Dirt or Sebastian wax rub it all over your palms and in between your fingers and run your fingers through your hair. tell your hairdresser to layer it in choppy layers. it looks really good

after you towel dry your hair apply a volumizer at the roots and a texturizer throughout and lift and tousle the hair while you dry. then you can take a flat iron and section some pieces out. you need a light pomade and a great one is manipulator by tigi, oily use on the ends though. also, this look will be easier to achieve if your hair is dirty. use some dry shampoo on your roots to soak up any oil and to give the hair some body.

i have longer hair, but i have lots of layers %26amp; i always do my hair the "shaggy/edgy" way. what i do is; when i'm blowdrying my hair, i try not to use a brush. i use my fingers and just brush em through my hair, separating it. i straighten it %26amp; then i use a hair cream (you can probably get em at any salon/drug store) %26amp; apply it to my hair .. also, when you get your next hair cut, tell your hairdresser to use a razor when he/she cuts your hair.

Put hair wax or liquid latex in your hands and rub until it starts to warm, now pull though your hair in sections, just mold it into the shape you want. It will give you that choppy, piecey look.
